It's my last real day at work - tomorrow we have a collaboration meeting all day (where I have to give a talk, boo) and then I move down to Houston on Saturday :D Grad school starts on the 24th, AHHH! I don't know how all you guys feel, but this summer has moved way too fast for me :P

new friends! Figured I'd better (finally) do an about me post :)

Me: My name's Julie, I'm obsessed with The Office, John Krasinski, and music. I definitely consider this a graphic journal, so while I'll mostly post icons and things like that I will be reading your posts and commenting all the time!

School: I just graduated from college in May, and I'm headed to grad school in Houston in about two weeks. I have a B.A. in Physics, and I'm going to get a Ph.D. in High Energy Particle Physics :D woot. But yeah, for the first time my school apartment will have a dishwasher, garbage disposal, and double bed, so I'm basically stoked. Also that whole "we'll pay you to come here and learn/research" thing...

Work: This summer I've been working on the Mu2e experiment at Fermilab, outside Chicago. It's fun. Most of my research so far as been in simulation, and this summer I've been designing detector components and magnetic fields in C++.

Hobbies: I'm a singer :D I love a cappella music, and choir in general. I directed my a cappella choir in college, and I can't wait to get to Houston and sniff around for groups to sing with there. I also arrange music - you can check out my website, which is in very serious need of a layout makeover..... and listen to all of my songs!

my dream last night:

The Office was filming at my grandmother's house in Atlanta, GA. Jenna Fischer was so in character that she was actually having Pam's baby, and I was helping her deliver in my grandmother's living room with Angela. After the baby was born I was pretty zonked, and headed back to my room for a potty break and a rest. I walk into my bedroom, and who else should be lying in my bed, chest exposed, head propped up on his elbow, but the sensationally gorgeous John Krasinski? No one, that's who. I'm staring dumbfounded at him from the doorway when Maya Rudolph pops her head out from under the covers on the other side of the bed :P I asked them, "is it ok if I just stand here and look at you for a while?". Gentleman that he is, John was like, "of course! And thanks for letting us borrow your bed".

I'm at my summer job! I'm not gonna lie, I kinda thought Chicago would be warmer than this right now - it was rainy and barely 60 degrees all day long :(

Anyway, here are some pictures of where I am. This first is the big high rise where basically everyone works (I'm on the 12th floor)



and this is the main ring of the particle accelerator, called the Tevatron because it accelerates protons to 1 Tera-electron volt (that's huge).



this one is just cute :) The 6 quarks are called Up, Down, Top, Bottom, Strange, and Charm, so they made a charm bracelet :D



finally, what the heck this guy is just too amazingly gorgeous for words! And he's smiling at me!

I'm moving this weekend! I've been traveling all over the place since graduation - drove down to Atlanta with all my junk, lounged around with my Grandmother doing nothing but making icons and playing in Sibelius, then flew home to San Francisco for a harrying week with my family. Seriously, my mother is the least relaxed person on the planet, and I swear when she walks into the same BUILDING as me I get all tense and uncomfortable. But I got to meet my new puppy, which was awesome. I forgot my camera, which is not awesome at all...

Anyways, now I'm back in Atlanta repacking my "new" car (Subaru Outback, what!) to get as much of my stuff in there as possible before I drive to Chicago for the summer. I'm stopping in Nashville on the way to see my friends and bf. I should have known I wouldn't be able to stay away longer than three weeks :D Who was I kidding? Myself, that's who...

But it will be fun because I get to go to the Frist museum downtown and see the MEDIEVAL TREASURES! I'm beyond normally excited about this because A) I love all things/events/people that occurred between about 300 and 1300 AD, and B) it's supposed to be the largest, most comprehensive collection in either America or the world, I can't remember. Apparantly the collection is HUGE and spans from early Christian art from about 200 all the way through the middle ages to early Renaissance works of the 1400's :D :D :D :D :D I'm pumped!

So yeah, CDs are burned, car is soon to be packed, I'm ready for a road trip B-)
